Don’t forget, mermaid school is starting back up again! At the end of September we’ll be starting mermaid school at Dartmouth Sportsplex for ages 5+ including teens and adults. ​Hello fishy fans! It once again has been too long since we’ve given you an update! Of course our mermaids have been very busy! We get so busy we just don’t have a chance to update this poor blog very often, but my how things keep growing and changing!

Hello everyone! Can you believe the fall has gone, and winter is coming? It really is – we hate to say it- because we all miss the warmth of the sun and warm waters!

With the change of season has come a change in mermaids. First of all we’d like to welcome little Merling Aria. That’s right! Mermaid Mimi and Merwrangler Marc are the proud parents to this beautiful baby girl. The Halifax Mermaids are so proud of these beaming new parents. We are excited to spoil this sweet little one! With the comings and goings of mermaids, We have said goodbye this November to Mermaid Mutiny, and a new hello to Mermaid Ama. Mermaid Ama was once a contractor for Halifax Mermaids and took a break for school. Now she’s back in full force and we couldn’t be happier. She has been training in the blue Merbella’s tail, and has been volunteering to get her training hours. Soon she’ll be back to a full fledged mermaid and we are excited to have her team back up with us. You Can Follow Ama on Facebook For more.

Welcome to the end of summer fishy friends! Can you believe August has swum by so quickly? Neither can we!  But not to worry sea-fans, our winters are every bit as busy as our summers so there will be many opportunities to catch up with mermaids! So let’s see what went down in the fishy month of August…

It never fails Fishfans. While we’d like to keep you updated at LEAST once a month… we get so busy that it just never happens. It’s time for the mid-summer review with the Halifax Mermaids! Our last update chronicled most of spring… time to see what happened from the end of May and onward!

Wow we haven’t made a formal update since the beginning of the year and soooo much has happened! We’ve been working our tails off so it’s time for a fishy update. Usually I post things chronologically but I wanted to start with the good news first.

Hello fish-fans! You may have seen from our various social media pages that we’re currently running in the ADP Small Business Grant contest. ADP selects a winner every month based on votes and judging. That company then gets to use ADP Payroll services free for a year, and wins $10,000 toward their company! We’ve been asking people to vote for us and trying to explain how the money will help us. If we get to the top 5 companies with the most votes for the end of March; we are then into the second round where judges will determine who wins.

The main way that YOU can help us is by voting once daily, and inviting all your friends and family to do the same. You must register on the ADP contest website. It’s a very easy registration and they won’t spam you. Registration is just to make sure no one cheats. At the time of writing this blog we’re in second. Hello fishy fans! My are we over due for an update! I try and update the blog once a month so I don't get too behind but with everything going on for mermaids... it just didn't happen. So, let's talk about December! We did some awesome kid's parties, made a donation and a trip to Hope for Wildlife, and had a cool fishy staff party :) Let's take a look...

Below is a video from a really fun kid's party we did. (Online and posted with permission) we tested out new kid's mermaid tails and fins which we'll now be offering for special bookings and events. The girl's had a total SPLASH

Hey there fishy friends. Can you believe fishmas is almost here? Just a month away! Things have been quiet in the month of November for us mermaids. November is typically a quieter month in mermaid history that allows us to get everything in order for the busy holiday season, and the very busy spring that will be coming! But that doesn't mean we aren't still having fun ;) We are still doing loads of birthday parties but don't always have permission to post things online. Mimi and Raina took the new Gopro out for a spin for a few minutes before a booking recently. We haven't quite figured out how to work this awesome new technology and we have had zero time to play with it. You can be sure during the Halifax Mermaid's Fishmas party that we will. Here are a few clips...

We had a buzzfeed article go a little viral, you can check it out here. We also added a new section to our website on the left hand side, "Mermaids for Education" check it out! Raina also had a workshop on photography. You can buy the recording in the "How to be a Mermaid" section and learn how to take basic photos and video, edit them, and watermark them.
Raina threw a mermaid party and Mimi, Mutiny and Raina had a real fun time dressing up. Merwrangler Sean seized the opportunity to realize his inner mermaid. It was, uh, something. What were you for Halloween? ;)

As I mentioned the birthday parties have been keeping us swimming. Here's a little video of Mutiny and Raina warming up.

The book has been selling well, and Raina has been enjoying the response to it. She celebrated her 29th birthday in fishy style with all the mermaids, watching Mermaid Mimi perform in a hilarious play. Here are some behind the scenes photos of mermaid life over the past month.

Mutiny and Raina got to perform for a corporate function at the Westin NS. It was a mermazing experience and they managed to do it despite both feeling unwell, and Raina having a broken toe!

Mimi recently donated her hair to be made for wigs for women who have lost their hair. WAY TO GO MIMI WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU. Mermazing actress and mermaid, and an all around awesome lady

The girls participated in a local craft fair to sell some MERchandise along with books. Part of the book money was added to our donation to Hope for Wildlife that we'll be making soon! It was a fun experience, even though it was a super chilly day!

Raina's replacement tail will be ready soon! Here are some photos from Raven. Guess what? She surprised Raina by making a SECOND tail our of upcycled and recycled materials!! So now Raina will be getting TWO tails. How cool is that? We are super thankful to Raven for the help! <3 <3 <3

December is a CRAZY month for us for private events. The girls will be busy. Nessie will be visiting from Newfoundland and there will be a fishmas party in which we'll get loads of new footage of the girls and photos too. plus, Raina is forcing them all to watch Splash since NONE of the other Halifax Mermaids have seen it. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! crazy! Raina will be appearing at NC Merfest in January, and then our next public event is on the poster below. After that we're into confirmed MARCH BREAK MADNESS so watch for a schedule update on all the awesome places you can see us mermaids!

Happy American Thanksgiving and please stay safe this holiday season! We look forward to the final month of 2014 and seeing what 2015 will bring us mermaids. What a crazy and fun time to be a mermaid! We'll have to post a retrospective at some point :) Best fishes, bubble kisses to you all!
