Hello fishies and welcome to September! Hard to believe it’s the end of the summer already and kids will be going back to school!
Don’t forget, mermaid school is starting back up again! At the end of September we’ll be starting mermaid school at Dartmouth Sportsplex for ages 5+ including teens and adults. What a whirlwind of a summer it’s been. Our last update took us to the end of May! We’ve done so much since then! Ahhh! Get ready for our big summer recap.
To start, we welcomed Mermaid Kristin and Mermaid Kay along with Merwrangler Arthur to our team.
Kristin is a teacher, and a circus performer. She was hired to lead our library tours all summer. Kay is a marine biologist who also instructs belly dancing and burlesque. She’s known in Halifax as “Kay Licious” and has been hired to lead adult mermaid school. She also got to do a few things with us this summer. Kay also appeared as a mermaid in the Halifax Pride Parade and looked mer-mazing

We found out that we were nominated for the Innovative Business Award through the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. That was amazing to find out.

Kristin had her first mermaid photo shoot with us! She really made a splash and looks an awful lot like the famous mermaid, Madison from Splash!
We finished May as a team celebrating the birthday of a good friend of ours. She is the daughter of Jim- the head of the Aquatron where we did our research study. This young lady brought her friends and we had a SPLASH. Check out the video below
Victoria appeared at the Halifax Forum for a health expo and was a big hit. Doesn’t she look beautiful? Like Everyone else, We've been having fun catching pokemon too...
We celebrated the birthday of one of our amazing young fans Torin, by creating this mermazing video for him of mers around the world. Check out the photos and video for Torin!
Raina published her third book: The Fishy Business Handbook. There were two facebook live videos celebrating the release. You can watch them below, and buy the book here
Raina and Mimi once again visited Bedford for Bedford Days. It was a FLASHY experience. We met the mayor once again, and he bragged about us which was cool. Check out the photos and videos below
As per usual, the Halifax Mermaids were incredibly busy during Canada Day. With Mimi and Nessie at Fisherman’s Cove, and Raina and Ama in Bedford. Check out the videos and photos below
Ama and Raina travelled to Middleton where they performed in the rain and swam with many happy kids

Sean’s family decided they wanted to experience mermaid life. So his 71 year old mother, and his amazing sister who was in town for a visit, dawned mermaid tails and had a lesson. Check out photos and video below
Raina gave environmental workshops and performed in the glowing plankton for the Deanery project.
Ama and Victoria toughed it out in the rain for Clam Harbour Sand Castle festival and even ended up on the news. One of the videos even went viral
Ama, Victoria, and Raina made their annual appearance at the Waegwoltic Club. It was a beautiful day and the weather was awesome.
Kristin and Raina had a great time photoshooting with Jeff babineau of Babineau Visual Media
Raina was around for the Selkie Wine event where the new mer-horse in Eastern Passage was unveiled. She had so much fun, made some friends, and got some wine!
Tallahassee Days was once again a great success. Spending time with our pirate friends Is always awesome. Thanks to everyone at Fisherman’s Cove who made it happen
Raina picked up one of the library visits and had lots of fun with budding marine biologists
Hope for wildlife was once again a fishy fantastic event with Kay and Raina volunteering
Raina and Sean built a stabilizer with lights for their gopro and went out to sea to test it out. Check out the photos and video!
