Mer-May~ 2016

​Hello fish-fans! Look at us! Actually on time with a blog update! It’s mid May and here in NS we’re trying so hard to hang on to spring! Summer is around the corner, and all the mers are in transition getting ready for the warmth!

​Our last update was March, and plenty has happened since then! We officially launched the sales of our amazing kid’s monofin! The monofin was created by Body Glove and Mermaid Linden- a world recognized free diver and mermaid. We chose to be the Canadian reps for this monfin because after our experiences with it we feel it’s the safest and most efficient product for kids to learn on. We’ve had many happy custo-MERS. ​With this focus on monofins we’ve launched a safety section of our website. Be sure to check it out if you’re interested in learning about mermaid tail and fin safety. You can find it here. 

We’ve spent the past few months doing many birthday parties and private bookings. It has been so much fun. You can find updated images at the bottom of this Facebook album.

​We wrapped up the first part of our study at the Aquatron, and got the published results. We have some awesome additional video footage but haven’t had time to edit it all together for you to see. For now, check out this album of really cool photos. 

​Our head of the Aquatron Jim, took a photo of Raina and Ama and entered it into a photo contest. If we get enough votes, the photo will be in a calendar about art meeting science. You can vote for it by following this link and selecting your top 5 photos! Check out the photo here, we think Jim did a great job. 

Our Swim school officially launched! First we had a lot of fun teaching CBC News Anchor and Curling champ- Colleen Jones- in a tail! She had a splash. Watch the video below. 

The school itself has been a very intense but rewarding experience. Skills have been focused on developing safety habits and becoming comfortable in the water. We have been so lucky to have so much support. We’ve gotten so many amazing reviews. The classes sold out so fast! We are hoping to add more in the future including adult classes. We’ll have some video soon but for now enjoy these photos. 

We donated a mermaid basket including a monofin to the charity that rescued our kitties- Healing Animal’s Scars. We are happy to report that the rescue fund-raised $16,000 for kitty rescue! We were thrilled to give back to someone who does so much for kitties in need. 

Raina and Sean have been announced as organizers for 2017’s NC Mermania. We are excited to be contributing several workshops as well including one on safety, one on working with kids, and one on merwrangling. We hope some of you mers will join us as some of the Halifax Mermaid’s Team are planning to come!

Mermaid Victoria, Merwrangler Sean, and Mermaid Ama all had birthdays! Our friend Merman Christian did as well! 

​Mermaid Mimi and Mermaid  Nessie just volunteered for the 5th year in a row for the Children’s Wish Foundation Princess Tea. Way to go ladies!

​Mermaid Mimi did her first solo gig since having her baby, and made a splash at Bedazzled store in Bedford. We’re so proud of her. She Bedazzled her tail while we wait for her new one. Look how great she looks!

​In other news it has been 1 year since we won the ADP Grant. Thanks ADP!

It’s also been 3 years since Raina published her first book. Yay! She has a third planned for publications soon!

Big congrats to Mermaid Victoria who obtained her diploma in Makeup Artistry and design. Check out some of the amazing makeup looks she has been creating.

Mimi and Raina will appear at the Bedford Days celebrations June 29th 7-9pm in Dewolfe Park

Mermaids will appear at Shore things on July 1 Canada Day in Eastern Passage. 12-3

Mermaids will appear at Bedford Canada Day celebration July 1st, 1-3pm 

Mermaids will appear August 1st Natal Day for the Dingle Beach Party. 11am-1pm

Mermaids will appear at the Clam Harbour Sand Castle festival August 14th details to be announced
