Halifax Mermaids Photography FAQ
Here at Halifax Mermaids, we strive to give you a unique and memorable mermaid experience. Our main focus is to create an environment at a booking that fosters imagination, fun, is inspiring, and in many cases educates. We believe it’s important to nurture kids, and to nurture the kid in all of us.
Our company offers many “add ons” to our packages to make things more convenient and cost effective for clients. One of our most popular is our photography add on.
In the photography world, what we offer through Halifax Mermaids would cost several hundred dollars minimum. We offer 1-2 hours of photo-shooting time, 10-15 edited images, along with all of your “spontaneous” photos. We also offer the use of an underwater camera for both mermaids and kids to use at birthday party bookings.
Our photographer Sean really enjoys capturing special moments, but it’s important you understand that the photography we do is generally spontaneously based. That means Sean is typically running around a pool trying to capture those special moments with kids. At the end of the day however, our main focus is that the children at an event are having a good time- not stopping frequently to ‘pose’ for photos.
With that in mind, we hope you’ll give consideration to the following points:

With that in mind, we hope you’ll give consideration to the following points:
- Our company charges 80$ or less (depending on your package) for photos. This is unheard of in the photography community for what we are offering, and would normally only get a client 1-2 final images.
- If you have decided to hire us for photography please be sure to sigh the photo release document linked at the bottom of this page.
- Due to the nature of the environment we are working in (very typically a wet and misty indoor pool under bad lighting) we can’t guarantee the amount of photos. Our photographer/merwrangler Sean always shoots more photos than needed to be sure we can have many to choose from. However these wet environments can often make it tricky for cameras to focus and can require a lot of editing time after the booking to ensure quality images.
- Pools are big, and Sean can’t typically get in them with expensive non-waterproof camera gear. We have several lenses that allow us to take photos from a distance. That being said, some of your photos not unsurprisingly, will be at a distance.
- We make a huge effort to get photos of every child, but children get busy and have fun. Our main priority at a birthday party is to get photos of the birthday child and their family enjoying the experience. If you have booked a 2 hour party, there will be time slotted during the dry half to pose for photos with every single child.
- We take one group shot in the pool, and one in the dry portion of parties. We do our best to give you a great group shot and do many takes, but we can only provide what the kids feel like doing in the moment.
- We will sometimes send you photos we consider to be “out takes” due to their quality, if we think the moment captured will have sentimental value to you.
- Due to time constraints we can only offer a minimum of 10 final edited photos. However, we do supply you with the majority of the photos taken at your event/booking. Unless otherwise shown, all photos are print resolution size.
- We transfer our photos to you using a program called DROPBOX. Don’t worry, it’s free, and we send you instructions on how to use it. If you prefer to be send a USB in the mail there is an additional cost.
- Underwater cameras are fun but more of a novelty. They rarely produce great images due to the nature of taking photos in a pool where everyone is swimming and kicking and having fun. The underwater camera is more of an experience for children. We send you the best images from the underwater camera that we can but are rarely able to get children to sit and pose underwater for a photo. Parents are more than welcome to take the camera and go on a mission for photos.
- Many internet providers have something called an “upload cap”. That means it takes us a long time to get your images online at their high resolution size. We typically need to leave our computer running for a whole day if not more just for one client. We always get our photos to clients within a 2 week period but we ask for your understanding within that 2 weeks.
- It is very important when you receive your photos via DROPBOX that you download them as soon as possible so we have room for future clients.
